Are you an Artist? We are!
The word “artist”, specifically when translated to my native language Finnish (“artisti” or “taitelija”), evokes a mental image of a painter working on a landscape or sculptor chiseling a slab of marble to reveal the hidden statue within. Some other people associate the word “artist” with the latest famous pop singer or contemporary dancer.
However, I consider myself and some people I have met over my short career, Artists. Not because of our painting skills (lacking) or for our singing prowess (generally bad) nor because we can chisel statues out of a piece of rock (we cannot). I refer to us as Artists because every one of us strives to be “a person whose work exhibits exceptional skill”* in our own professions or skill domains. Some have exceptional technical abilities, while some are extremely good at selling products and/or ideas and some have innate ability to come up with ideas in the first place and to refine them into something that can be achieved. Some are just exceptional people persons.
However, I consider myself and some people I have met over my short career, Artists.
In all cases, an Artist will put his heart into his work and will feel distressed when he has to settle for anything less than he feels he should be able to deliver. Regardless of the reason. An Artist has put in his 10 000** hours of practice and can, in addition to following the frameworks and practices of his profession, be creative and find new ways of doing things. Sometimes even before the 10k hours have passed. An Artist can even use the skills from one field of work/profession to launch into another field – bringing a completely new viewpoint, skill set and competitive advantage with him.
An Artist has put in his 10 000** hours of practice and can, in addition to following the frameworks and practices of his profession, be creative and find new ways of doing things.
So why am I writing about Artists, and not technology which is my topic generally? Because, in addition to giving myself and the other artists a big pat on the back, we at JustIn are looking to hire people who consider themselves Artists in the areas of Service Design, Service Management, User Experience, Customer Experience, Software Development etc. So do not hesitate to contact any one of us if you are looking to make a move and wish to work with Artists like you!
